SSPC Structured PhD Programme
The SSPC Structured PhD Programme incorporates both structured and traditional research elements. The structured element is designed to be both flexible and adaptable, in order to meet the ever-changing requirements of the sector. The SSPC Education & Outreach strategy is dedicated to producing postgraduate students with the relevant discipline-specific and transferable skills required for working within the sector. The key facets of the structured element are credited assessment-based generic and transferrable skills and core discipline-specific modules. As employability is at the core of the student experience and industrial placement is a key feature of our approach for our 60 PhD Candidates. To date 31 of these PhD students have completed their mandatory (3 month) industry placement. SSPC’s award winning Structured PhD programme currently reports 46% of SSPC trainees (from previous SSPC funding) take up employment in industry following departure from the Centre.
SSPC actively supports our 60 PhD Candidates through the provision of educational opportunites across our 8 academic partner institutions:
- SSPC PhD Students attended UL Generic & Transferrable Research Skills Summer School as part of their structured PhD
- SSPC PhD students attended a Master Class: Process Development & Scale Up in the Pharmaceutical Industry, School of Chemistry, NUI Galway
